How Do I Care For My Windshield Replacement?

Posted on

When you have a windshield replacement done on your vehicle, there are a few things you need to always remember in order to protect your vehicle until the adhesive has had plenty of time to dry. Windshield replacement services usually explain to customers the proper care and steps to take following a windshield replacement, so make sure you follow their instructions carefully so you do not end up needing another windshield replacement the next day. Here are a few things your auto glass company wants you to know about caring for your windshield replacement.

Do Not Slam Doors

You should never slam the doors on a vehicle with a newly installed windshield replacement, as it can make the glass shift and not adhere to the right position. Always close doors as gently as you can to keep from shattering your new windshield or causing other damages to it. If you are driving on unsafe road conditions, try your best to avoid bumpy roads with a lot of potholes as this motion can also cause a windshield replacement to shift before it is fully dried.

Do Not Go To A Car Wash

The chances of needing a full-powered car wash right after you have a new windshield are slim, but if you must wash your vehicle, try to use a gentle hand wash method and avoid the use of powerful water hoses or pressure washers. The force of the water from these methods can damage your new windshield replacement and land you right back in the position you started with when you first called your mobile windshield repair company.

Do Not Drive For One Hour

Windshield replacement services will take a longer period of time if you are going to an auto glass shop because there is a required wait time of one hour before you can safely drive your car off of their lot. To avoid this wait time inconvenience, have mobile windshield repair come to you and perform a windshield replacement where it is more convenient for you to get started on your work for the day without having to wait in a lobby for one hour.

Always Crack the Windows

The windows on your vehicle need to remain cracked about one inch for the first day following windshield replacement services. This will make sure there is not any pressure inside the vehicle that will cause the windshield replacement to shift from the desired location. After a day or so, you should be able to roll your windows back up and continue driving as you normally would.
